Executive Committee Members: Emilio Ceraudo (EC), Patricia Daniels (PD), Joyce Jarvis (JJ), Terri Pope (TP), Chris Stannard (CS)
David Harper (DaH) and L.M. Stockman (LMS) were absent with apologies.
Surgery Representatives: Jenny Moyes (JM)
Dr Gysbert Fourie (DrGF) was absent with apologies.
Doris Hall (DoH) joined the Committee.
The minutes from the meeting of 28 March 2012 were approved. The report of the Health Awareness Event has been approved by the staff participants and has been circulated. PD was acting chairman.
TP said how successful the event had been, with approximately 80 people in the audience. PD said it would be helpful to know how the audience had learnt about the meeting (e.g., those not from the maple surgery). In future, could there be a flyer seeking this information or would this be too formal? JM said that Fiona McGlashan had done a great deal to advertise the meeting with posters, etc.
JM said that the absence of computer display screens had not been a disadvantage; indeed, it may have been an advantage as it was easier to listen without their distraction. However, the sound system was not perfect, especially towards the back of the hall.
There was an urgent need for a topic for the next Health Awareness Event by early September; there will be a request for ideas at the next Practice meeting. It was suggested that 'Asthma' might be a good topic being relevant to all age groups.
Action: Deferred to June meeting.
Application and evidence for the Care Quality Commission registration are needed by April 2013. This is a fee-based application. There are 16 standards to be met, and the procedure will go forward during July to September. There will be inspections every two years, with published reports.
There is a need for a Carers' Champion. Volunteers are sought who are able to meet the needs of those on the Register of Carers. There was food for thought here.
A change to the computer system is imminent. During the four changeover days from 20 June the Surgery will offer only limited service, though urgent and emergency cases will be met as usual. Special arrangements are already in place for the Repeat Prescription service with some patients being given two months' supply of routine medication prescriptions as necessary. The new system will be fully operational from 26 June. Training will begin after the Bank Holidays, and staff experienced with the system will be present throughout the transition. Soon after 26 June there will hopefully be an automatic check-in system available.
Because of the uncertainties of the change in the NHS and the disbandment of the Primary Care Trust to a Clinical Commissioning Group the Partners have not yet been able to formalise a contract with Dr Pai. The Surgery has, however, met 100% of all clinical and performance management targets set for all GP practices.
It was felt that the Surgery and the PPG should have a presence at the village fête. The Surgery would welcome participation and a number present said they would cover half hour periods at the stall. JM made a number of suggestions as starting points: a Health Walk presentation, a 'name the nurse doll' competition, guess the number of jelly beans. The entry charges would go towards a donation to a suitable charity, perhaps the Children's Hospice.
Action: Details will be settled at the June meeting. CS will supply a gazebo and TP will apply for a pitch.
A patient has made an enquiry if the group could provide support groups for specific patients and/or situations.
Action: Deferred to July. The patient will be invited to the meeting to discuss the issue.
Julia Pigott who is involved with the Primary Care Research Network would like to speak to the group.
Action: It is proposed that she be invited to the July meeting.
The Quiz Night at the Bar Hill Social Club raised money for Meningitis Research. Could the next one do so for MS research, with members of the Committee participation?
Action: Deferred to June.
The Care Network thought that the PPG was researching community transport to hospital, etc., and the PPG thought that the Care Network was doing so. There is a relevant leaflet concerning the OWLS (Over, Willingham, Longstantion and Swavesey) voluntary system in the Surgery.
Action: Deferred to June.
The next meeting of the Executive Committee of the PPG will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 27 June 2012, in the Octagon. Tea and coffee will be served before the meeting, from 6:00 p.m.
