Executive Committee Members: Emilio Ceraudo (EC), Patricia Daniels (PD), David Harper (DH), Joyce Jarvis (JJ), Terri Pope (TP), Chris Stannard (CS), L.M. Stockman (LMS)
John Doland (JD) and Josephine Powell (JP) were absent with apologies.
Surgery Representatives: Jenny Moyes (JM)
Dr Gysbert Fourie (DrGF) and Trish Hawitt Palmer (THP) were absent with apologies.
The minutes from the meeting of 25 January 2012 were approved. CS was acting chairman.
DH submitted the Chairman's Annual Report to the Bar Hill News for publication in the March issue.
JM said that the PRG was a work in progress.
CS met with Fiona McGlashan (FM) at the surgery to discuss organising the next event. FM is the notes summariser for the Surgery and is also experienced in marketing. The next Health Awareness Event will cover various aspects of memory loss and dementia. Dr Emma Tiffen from the surgery will be speaking, as will Dr Sue Green, a consultant psychiatrist with the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, an organisation providing mental health and specialist learning disability services in this region. Representatives from the Alzheimer's Society will also attend.
A title for the event has not yet been decided given the sensitive nature of the topic. CS thought it would be best to leave that to FM. The event will be held in the evening some time in April but scheduling is proving to be a bit difficult since the church buildings are very busy. A potential date is Thursday, 26 April 2012, from 6:30 to 8:00 (with set up at 6:00). It may be in either the main hall or the Octagon. Audio-visual equipment can be made available if necessary.
In addition to speakers, there will be information stalls. It has been suggested that Crossroads Care and agencies providing home help be invited to send staff or leaflets.
In a response to a question about the target audience, JM said that the talk was open to everyone, both those suffering from memory issues and their carers. CS pointed out that dementia affects people of all ages, not just the elderly, and that the event was about the help available to sufferers and their carers.
Another question arose regarding advertising. JM said that there she was happy to put up posters about other surgery's events if they were on general health-related questions and thought that surgeries in other villages would have much the same policy.
Action: FM will be invited to the March meeting to finalise event details, including advertising. PD is happy to distribute posters to outlying villages. JM will circulate posters to other surgeries and articles to various village newsletters. Once the date and venue have been finalised, FM will contact outside organisations about information stalls at the event.
JM reported that Dr Anthony Ng has left the practice but that a new locum doctor, Dr Sripat Pai, is currently holding clinics. His first day was today (29 February 2012). Although advertisements for the position had not had much response, Dr Pai has recently moved to the area with his family and contacted the maple surgery with a view to taking up a post there.
In other news, the bulletin boards in reception have been cleared and redone. They had become confused and outdated and FM is helping with the reorganisation.
Final changes were made to the text of the constitution and it was unanimously adopted.
CS said due to scheduling pressures at the church, the next meeting will need to take place in the TNT room instead of the Octagon.
Action: LMS will update the web site and produce a new schedule to be placed in reception just as soon as she has the final details from CS.
The proposed date for the Health Awareness Event is the day after the April meeting.
Action: It will be decided at the next meeting whether or not to hold an April meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
The next meeting of the Executive Committee of the PPG will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 28 March 2012, in the TNT Room at Bar Hill Church. Tea and coffee will be served before the meeting, from 6:00 p.m.
