Attendance

Executive Committee Members: John Doland (JD), Doris Halls (DoH), Graham Hardy (GH), David Harper (DaH), Joyce Jarvis (JJ), Anthony Mitchell (AM), Josephine Powell (JP)

Emilio Ceraudo (EC), Patricia Daniels (PD), Nick Martensz (NM), Chris Stannard (CS) and L.M. Stockman (LMS) were absent with apologies.

Surgery Representatives: Fiona McGlashan (FM)

Village fête planning

PD sent apologies to say that she had double booked dates for this event and would be unable to help. JJ will not be available and AM also offered apologies as he will be on the Parish Council stall.

JD offered to run a competition to guess the number of sweets in a jar. FM has given him a suitable jar and printed slips, and JD has donated the cuddly toy as the prize. He will organise and run this on the stall and prepare his own poster.

FM had a number of posters, banners, etc., prepared from the last fête and brought these along. JP took these and will check them. JP will bring string, cellotape, etc.

Walking for Health will have leaflets to give. JP will see to this and prepare the posters. The stand from the surgery was thought to be too heavy to use as was previously suggested.

Elizabeth Edunsin, the surgery nurse, will bring a stethoscope for children to listen to their own heartbeats, and will also offer to take blood pressures. She will need a poster and DoH offered to see to this. AM suggested laminating could be done by the Parish Council Office on request.

GH suggested using a stepping stool, with blood pressure to be measured before and after use, but it was felt that there would be a risk of slipping on the step so this was declined. He also suggested a Health Wish box, and he was asked if he could organise this.

A rota of volunteers will be needed and since several members were not present at the meeting, the rota will be circulated by email. Help will be needed from 11:30 am through to about 4:30 pm. JP and her husband Derek will be at the fête from 11:15 am with a gazebo, two tables and chairs, and DaH and NM have agreed to be there by 11:30 to help erect this. JD will set up his own competition, JP will do the Health Walks and the surgery staff will set up on their arrival.

Action: JP will send a rota for volunteers by email. DoH will organise the poster for the surgery blood pressure checks and stethoscope.

Surgery report

There was little to report from the surgery. They are taking part in a Real Time Study framework (RTF) starting on 7 July. A kiosk with a laptop installed will be inside the surgery where patients can take part in a survey, this replacing the conventional paper form. Staff are currently being trained, and around 10 to 12 surgeries are taking part. Data will be collected over a 12 week period.

AM asked about complaints that were made to the surgery,. He was concerned that ratings were down and that answers to complaints were not publicly available. FM assured members that all complaints were dealt with and that answers were usually made directly.

JJ asked if her thanks could be made to the surgery. It was suggested that thanks should also be made public on the NHS Choices web site.

[FM left at 7:00 pm.]

Approval of minutes and matters arising

The minutes from the meeting of 28 May 2014 were approved and accepted. GH asked if the minutes from the Health Awareness Event had been approved by Dr Shapiro. These had been sent to FM for approval, and this would be checked.

Action: FM to confirm that these were correct with Dr Shapiro before being accepted.

Health Awareness Event feedback

JD thanked everyone who had put in a lot of effort to make this a great success. It was felt that this had been very well attended and many in the audience had given good feedback. Jean Doland had commented that the content had been of great interest. On the downside it was noted that the Bar Hill News had given only very small coverage to the event and didn't use the graphics provided whereas the full front page had been given over to the Bar Hill Fête for the past two issues, and other clubs were given much more space every month. A discussion took place on this, and it was decided that next time the Bar Hill News will again be asked to give the event more priority. A letter of thanks will be sent to the Bar Hill News.

A discussion took place on the amount of time the speakers had, and that Dr Shapiro should have been given more time. Suggestions were made for improvements.

Action: DaH will send a letter of thanks to the Bar Hill News.

Any other business

JP asked if the person from CATCH should be asked to talk to the members possibly in September, and this was agreed. JP to arrange.

JJ commented on the 111 service; it was felt that it would be better for her to deal with this directly.

AM asked if the fête was on the web site which it was.

JD informed the group that the village was getting a defibrillator which will be accessible to the public. A new scheme is being tried out with full security measures in place. The site is still being discussed with help from the East Anglian Ambulance Service, and suggestions are for placement of the defibrillator outside the Parish Council Office but this is yet to be confirmed.

Next meeting

There being no other business, JD thanked everyone for attending and the meeting closed at 7:45 p.m.

The next meeting of the Executive Committee of the PPG will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 23 July 2014, in the TNT Room at Bar Hill Church. Tea and coffee will be served before the meeting, from 6:00 pm.
