Approval of minutes and matters arising

The minutes from the meeting of 26 March 2014 were approved and accepted.

CATCH

JP had invited Celia Lindsay (CL) from CATCH to speak at tonight's meeting but she was unable to make this date. No member had showed interest in representing the PPG.

Action: JP will ask CL if she could speak at some future meeting.

Surgery report and matters

DrYR was welcomed and thanked for coming along. He had no major incidents or changes to report at the surgery.

Did Not Attend figures for January-March

DrYR talked at length about this. The surgery has to look at the NHS policy, they cannot delete patients from the list and can only send letters. He said text messages were sent as a first reminder, but said they could not jump to conclusions as to why patients failed to keep their appointments. There were many genuine reasons, admission to hospital as well as others mentioned. Some surgeries make a charge, but all actions have to be within guide lines of government policies. The DNA figures supplied by the surgery were discussed at length. Further discussion with DrYR on his own figures showed about 2% DNAs (32 DNAs out of approximately 1300 patients for one GP) showed that figures were now improving. The number of DNAs with the nurses appointments were showing high, as were those booked in advance. An average waiting time for appointments was six to seven days. DrYR gave examples of how admissions to Accident and Emergency could be lowered if patients could be seen earlier by their GP.

DrYR gave a very interesting account of how he perceives the future of the National Health Service.

Quarterly lunchtime meeting

A request from the surgery for occasional lunch time meetings was discussed. The Parish Council has a meeting room available on Monday or Tuesday and would require a written request for this. The TNT room was discussed as being preferable and Wednesday was a good day for the surgery.

Action: CS to check availability for Wednesday 1.00pm and book TNT room for meetings in May, August and October 2014.

Health tourism and its affect on patients

DrYR gave a brief outline on the rights of EU patients, but said that health tourism was a very rare occurrence in Bar Hill. The chairman decided that this was not a subject for further discussion in the interest of the Maple Surgery PPG.

Tesco and the electronic prescription service

LMS had been given a letter by Tesco re EPS. It has been heard from a reliable source that Tesco Pharmacy is having a refit and EPS will not likely be introduced until this is completed. DrYR said that from the surgery's prospective, EPS will shorten waiting times and that their system should be operational by the end of October. EPS will be for repeat prescriptions only.

Health Awareness Event planning

DoH has contacted and had replies from Chris Liddle at Slimming World, Deborah Crookes at Weight Watchers, and fitness trainer Simon Gurry (SG). It was agreed that Waves fitness club at Menzies Hotel would be asked if they would set up information table too. Slimming World, Weight Watchers, Patricia Daniels from Bar Hill Health Walks, and Weigh 2 Go will set up information tables with a possible table for a nurse from the surgery.

The announcement must be published in the June edition of the Bar Hill News.

Action: LMS to produce basic flyer for the June Bar Hill News. LMS to produce poster for general distribution as soon as information regarding speakers and stalls has been finalised. DoH to contact editor re putting advert in a prime position in the June Bar Hill News. JP/DoH to contact Waves at Menzies Hotel. DrYR to arrange speaker or speak himself. Surgery to arrange refreshments as last time.

Village fête planning

JP has booked the stall and received confirmation of this.

Action: Volunteers and rota to be discussed at next meeting.

Any other business

Community First Responders

CS said that response for Community First Responders to cover Bar Hill was not going too well; they needed five volunteers and had only managed to recruit two so far. He said defibrillators were needed and asked could these be borrowed from the surgery. DrYR said this was not possible as they had a legal repsonsibility to have defibrillators available at the surgery at all times.

Northstowe development

It was asked if GPs had been alerted to the 1500 new houses to built at Northstowe. DrYR was aware of this development and was certain that other practices would be built in the new village. DaH said an information day had been held informing of highways etc., and that healthcare would be open when the first phase was on line.

Green transport had been promised , but the failure of Cambourne also raised some concern.

DrYR said that Maple Surgery was not a good building for a surgery; sound/confidentiality was bad, there were no meeting rooms, as well as other problems. Knocking down this surgery and building a new updated surgery to serve Bar Hill and Northstowe could be considered.

Next meeting

There being no other business, JD thanked everyone for attending and the meeting closed at 7:55 p.m.

The next meeting of the Executive Committee of the PPG will take place at the earlier time of 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 28 May 2014, in the TNT Room at Bar Hill Church. Refreshments will be available.
