NHS Cambridgeshire has asked that two patients be involved in the process of selecting a provider for health care services in Bar Hill. DoH will volunteer and it was suggested that DaH also put himself forward. DaH was concerned that his role as Secretary of the Executive Committee of the maple surgery patient participation group would be seen as a conflict of interest. JD had done some research on the subject and found the following guidelines for conflicts of interest:
DaH agreed that his secretarial office probably wouldn't be construed as a conflict of interest under those guidelines, but was still reluctant to volunteer as he didn't know what would be expected of the volunteers; namely, when and where meetings would take place, how many meetings there would be, etc.
JJ said that her husband would agree to volunteer as well. PD was concerned that otherwise disinterested patients would also volunteer and that it was important that at least one member of the Executive Committee be selected. The problem is that no one knows how the patient representatives will be selected and what will be expected of them. It is likely that others will put themselves forward at the public meeting and the Committee agreed that DaH, DoH and John Jarvis should volunteer.
The rest of the meeting was concerned with preparing a list of questions to ask during the meeting.
Action: PD will collate the questions raised this evening and distribute them via the mailing list. Members can alter or add more questions during the coming week.
The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
The next ordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the PPG will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 31 October 2012, in the Octagon. Tea and coffee will be served before the meeting, from 6:00 p.m.
